All of our tattoo artists have a wealth of experience in covering tattoos. A cover up involves taking your existing tattoo and tattooing over the top with a design that will best distract from what’s underneath. In order for us to do this effectively, we’ll utilise the area around the old tattoo to give us more range, and therefore a better result, so you must be prepared for your new tattoo to be larger.
When you embark upon a cover up, don’t worry about what you think could cover it (that’s a great way to end up with another tattoo you don’t particular love!). In fact, forget you’ve got a tattoo altogether. Think about what you’d really like there and we’ll try and come up with a way to make it work over the top of your existing tattoo. That being said, you need to be realistic, flexible & keep an open mind so we can do the best job we can.
There are some cases where the existing tattoo may be too dark and dense for us to cover, in which case we may recommend a few treatments of tattoo laser removal to lighten it. This will allow more freedom with the design, opening us up to more options with fewer limitations. Laser removal isn’t something we offer at the moment, but as with tattoos, please research the company you use thoroughly and ask to see photos of healed removal.
All of our artists are well-versed in cover ups, so choose whoever’s work you’d most like to wear and they’ll be happy to guide you through the process. Unless the tattoo is relatively small and faded, we will need you to come down to the studio for a consultation. During the consultation, we’ll discuss what can be done to cover the tattoo, take a tracing and a few photos too, this will allow us to make the cover up as accurate as possible.

Don’t worry, they don’t all need to be this big!
